Seed parent: MM 12-158b (M. bellendenii X ((atropunctata x neopavonia) x sib))

Pollen parent: MM 13-134b (gigandra X villosa h)

This is fascinating. I crossed a vivid yellow flower with a vivid purple flower, and half of the offspring are white flowers with a yellow or orange blaze around the eye. None of the four grandparents of this flowers had white tepals, so I really wonder where the white came from. People have talked to me about "knockout" genes that disable other genes. Is there maybe a Moraea gene that turns off the tepal colors? I have no idea, but it sure is interesting.

This one looks like a throwback to M. villosa. You wonder if it might be from a stray seed, but that's unlikely.
