Moraea MM 20-33

Pollen parent: MM 13-149f  ((atropunctata x neopavonia) x gigandra) X (villosa x tulbaghensis)

MM 20-22a. Wow, the intensely dark inner tepals really stand out.

A sibling...

Moraea MM 18-186

Seed parent: MM 13-197 (M. lurida X villosa)
Pollen parent: MM 13-77c (villosa x tulbaghensis) X (villosa tulbaghensis)

MM 18-186a

MM 18-186b. This is a fascinating flower, with its two-tone tepals, veins, and contrasting inner and outer tepals. If I could get these color patterns with more vivid colors, I think it'd be a lot of fun.

Moraea MM 18-178

Seed parent: MM 13-195 (M. lurida X (aristata x villosa))
Pollen parent: MM 13-69d (tulbaghensis X villosa)

MM 18-178a. What an odd flower! It looks reddish in these photos, but in person it also has brown overtones. I like the two-tone eyes and the colored tips on the style crests.

MM 18-178b

Moraea MM 18-176

Seed parent: MM 13-01 (M. villosa form F X (neopavonia x villosa))
Pollen parent: M. neopavonia 'Summerfield'

MM 18-176a

Siblings...

Moraea MM 18-164

Seed parent: MM 13-196 (M. tripetala X bellendenii)
Pollen parent: MM 14-146d (villosa x tulbaghensis) X villosa

MM 18-164a. Hmmmm, this looks a lot like species M. bellendenii.

Moraea MM 18-125

Seed parent: MM 12-155a (Moraea 'Zoe' X neopavonia)
Pollen parent: MM 13-94c (tulbaghensis x villosa)

Here's a family view:

Moraea MM 18-63

Seed parent: MM 13-138 (M. bellendenii X aristata)
Pollen parent:  MM 13-138 (M. bellendenii X aristata)

This flower is unusual because the eye is orange, but I was hoping for a yellow flower with the brilliant blue eye of M. aristata.

MM 18-63a

Moraea MM 18-39

Seed parent: MM 13-207a (M. bellendenii X neopavonia)
Pollen parent: MM 13-205a (lurida X (atropunctata x calcicola))

MM 18-39a

Moraea MM 15-65

Seed parent: Moraea bellendenii yellow form
Pollen parent: Moraea tripetala with yellow eye

Fascinating! Crossing a yellow species with a purple one produced a white hybrid. Who would have expected it?

Moraea GK 2131

Seed parent: MM 17-88e (M. 'Zoe' X (neopavonia 'Summerfield' X neopavonia with blue eye))
Pollen parent: MM 18-312a (M. atropunctata x calcicola) x (villosa x tulbaghensis) X ((villosa x tulbaghensis) x villosa form d)

GK 2131_1. This is a nice flower!

Below are a couple of flowers that might be GK 2131 or GK 2132. Since Garry Knipe grows them in the ground in numerical order, those two crosses are growing next to each other, and sometimes it's hard to tell which is which. But whatever the label, they are very striking flowers. Based on their markings, I think they are probably 2131.

(For reference, the parentage of GK 2132 is GK 1699 MX_30 X GK 1316_3.)

Moraea GK 2130

Seed parent: MM 17-110a (M. 'Zoe' x atropunctata) X (M. 'Zoe' offspring x ((atropunctata? x neopavonia) x (neopavonia x villosa)))
Pollen parent: MM 17-110b (M. 'Zoe' x atropunctata) X (M. 'Zoe' offspring x ((atropunctata? x neopavonia) x (neopavonia x villosa)))

This should have been a heavily spotted flower, since both parents are spotted. But it's not, and I am confused.

GK 2130_1

GK 2130_2

Moraea GK 2128

Seed parent: MM 15-80b (M. atropunctata x calcicola) X neopavonia 'Summerfield'
Pollen parent: MM 18-312a ((M. atropunctata x calcicola) x (villosa x tulbaghensis)) X ((villosa x tulbaghensis) x villosa form d)

A very interesting dot pattern around the eye. Looking at the parents, I can see how we got here, but this is not what I expected.

Moraea GK 2124

Seed parent: GK 1699 MX_30 (parents unknown)
Pollen parent: MM 18-234a ((M. bellendenii x (gigandra x (atropunctata x neopavonia))) X (villosa x tulbaghensis)

This is a very pretty flower, but the color is confusing. Both parents are reddish, so their offspring should have been somewhere in the red-orange range. I do not understand what happened.

Moraea GK 2121

Seed parent: MM 15-106c ((M. atropunctata x calcicola) x gigandra) X (villosa x tulbaghensis)
Pollen parent: MM 18-312a ((M. atropunctata x calcicola) x (villosa x tulbaghensis)) X ((villosa x tulbaghensis) x villosa form d)

GK 2121_4

Here's a sibling

Moraea GK 2118

Seed parent: MM 18-312a ((M. atropunctata x calcicola) x (villosa x tulbaghensis)) X ((villosa x tulbaghensis) x villosa form d)
Pollen parent: MM 13-89d ((villosa x tulbaghensis) X villosa form d)

This is a marvelous cross, with brightly colored flowers that have intricate markings.

Let's start with a family photo:

GK 2118_1 (I had originally labeled this one "2118 #4")

GK 2118_2. An aging flower that was starting to curl up, but gosh what beautiful colors!

GK 2118_3. Check out the funky colored style crests.

GK 2118_4. Magnificent burgundy color. Photo by Garry Knipe.

GK 2118_6. A big speckled band around the eye. (I originally had this listed as 2118 #1.)

GK 2118_7. A narrower band. (I originally had this listed as 2118 #2.)

GK 2118_8. No speckles, but a big yellow-orange glow around the eye. (I originally had this listed as 2118 #3.)

GK 2118_18. Fascinating, the styles have been replaced by petals. I couldn't find any place to pollinate this flower, but it did have some pollen, so maybe we'll be able to breed some double flowers. Photo by Garry Knipe.
