Babiana MM 21-431

Seed parent: Babiana angustifolia
Pollen parent: Babiana blanda

A purple flower and a pink flower got together to make...a pink flower.

Gladiolus MM 20-281

Seed parent: MM 16-44a (watsonius x carmineus X ((priorii x gracilis) x violaceo-lineatus)
Pollen parent: MM 12-135b ((tristis x (gracilis priorii) X venustus

Interesting! The parents are both heavily veined flowers, so I was expecting a flower with a lot more veins in it.

It has a nice delicate look to it.

Gladiolus MM 18-275

Seed parent: Gladiolus bonaspei
Pollen parent: MM 12-135a ((tristis x (gracilis x priorii) X venustus

I was hoping to combine the beautiful red-yellow color scheme of the seed parent with the veins of the pollen parent. It worked.

MM 18-275a

Here's a sibling.

Gladiolus MM 20-286

Seed parent: Parent unknown
Pollen parent: Parent unknown

This is growing in the spot labeled "MM 20-286," but that's a Moraea cross. Maybe this Gladiolus seed was washed in from a nearby plant. It's a pretty little thing.

Gladiolus MM 19-36

Seed parent: G. bonaspei
Pollen parent: Parent unknown

G. bonaspei has produced a lot of very nice hybrids. This is a good example.

Gladiolus MM 19-143

Seed parent: MM 15-38a ((violaceo-lineatus) x (gracilis x priorii)) X ((gracilis x priorii) x violaceo-lineatus)
Pollen parent: MM 16-52a (G. watsonius X ((gracilis x priorii) x unknown))

This is a cross between a heavily spotted magenta flower and a scarlet one. I like the pink shade of this flower and its dark markings. Too bad the flower is kind of narrow.

Gladiolus MM 18-293

Seed parent: G. bonaspei
Pollen parent: MM 10-34a (priorii x odoratus)

This is a very nice flower: brilliant deep red with subtle yellow and black markings. G. bonspei is producing some very nice hybrids.

Gladiolus MM 20-371

Seed parent: MM 17-29c ((G. tristis x (gracilis priorii)) x venustus) X ((gracilis priorii) x violaceo-lineatus)
Pollen parent: MM 16-46b (gracilis priorii) X ((gracilis priorii) x violaceo-lineatus)

Wow, that is a lot of parents to produce a small nondescript flower.

Gladiolus MM 20-347

Seed parent: MM 15-36a ((G. gracilis x priorii) x carinatus) X sibling
Pollen parent: MM 15-38c (violaceo-lineatus) x (gracilis x priorii)) X ((gracilis x priorii) x violaceo-lineatus)

The colors are a bit more muted than the pollen parent, but the markings are equally delicate. A nice flower.

Here's a sibling.

Gladiolus MM 20-366

Seed parent: MM 15-16a (unknown parentage)
Pollen parent: MM 17-29c ((G. tristis x (gracilis x priorii)) x venustus) X ((gracilis x priorii) x violaceo-lineatus)

The pollen parent has very strong markings all over it. It's interesting that these hybrids have a big contrast between the upper and lower tepals. Maybe that comes from the seed parent.

Gladiolus MM 20-373

Seed parent: MM 14-105b (G. watsonius X patersoniae)
Pollen parent: MM 16-46b (gracilis x priorii) X ((gracilis x priorii) x violaceo-lineatus)

A red hybrid was crossed with a magenta one, producing a kind of salmon-orange flower. I like all the delicate markings on the tepals.

Gladiolus MM 20-375

Seed parent: Gladiolus gracilis
Pollen parent: Gladiolus bonaspei

What a lovely flower! As usual with Glads, crossing a red flower with a blue one produced magenta. I like the faint yellow shading in the lower tepals, which came from bonaspei.

Gladiolus MM 20-365

Seed parent: MM 15-16a (parents unknown due to bad record-keeping on my part)
Pollen parent: MM 16-46b (G. gracilis x priorii) X ((gracilis x priorii) x violaceo-lineatus)

A small flower, but I like the huge number of veins and speckles on it. Also, the upper tepals are a little pinker than the lower ones, which is an interesting variation.
