Moraea MM 18-108

Seed parent: MM 13-197 (M. lurida X villosa h)
Pollen parent: MM 14-146b (tulbaghensis x villosa) X villosa d

MM 18-108a. Darn, I also have this in my records as 18-107c. I will eventually sort that out, but for now I will keep both listings since it's possible I made crosses under both numbers.

MM 18-108b

Moraea MM 18-12

Seed parent: MM 11-30b (M. aristata x calcicola) X (atropunctata x neopavonia)
Pollen parent: MM 14-192a (aristata X (villosa x tulbaghensis))

The parents are both yellow, so I was hoping to get a really strong yellow in their offspring. I think this flower is OK progress, although there's a bit of orange to the color. Now I need to get a better blue eye on this flower.

Moraea MM 17-120

Seed parent: MM 13-196 (M. tripetala X bellendenii)
Pollen parent: MM 13-197b (M. lurida X villosa h)

I thought this was a very promising cross. M. lurida, bellendenii, and tripetala all do strange and surprising things to the look of M. villosa. So if I cross all four species together, who knows what wonderful flowers I'll get?

And the answer is...blah. Not just a little bit blah, a lot blah.

Oh well.

Moraea MM 17-51

Seed parent: MM 11-28d (M. aristata X gigandra)
Pollen parent: MM 13-109a (villosa X (atropunctata x neopavonia))

MM 17-51a

Probably a sibling

Moraea MM 16-94

Seed parent: MM 12-144b (M. gigandra X neopavonia)
Pollen parent: MM 12-122b (M. villosa X tulbaghensis)

Moraea MM 16-93

Seed parent: Moraea 'Zoe' offspring
Pollen parent: Moraea 11-20b (M. villosa X tulbaghensis)

MM 16-93a. I was shooting for lots of spots on an orange flower, but instead I got moderate spots on a white one.

Moraea MM 15-115

Seed parent: Moraea villosa h
Pollen parent: Moraea longiaristata with blue spots

MM 15-115a. I really like this flower for its delicate speckles, blue-yellow eyes, and bright central cup. Unfortunately, I have yet to successfully cross it with anything.

A couple of siblings...

Moraea MM 15-85

Seed parent: MM 10-04a (M. gigandra X tulbaghensis)
Pollen parent: MM 10-02c (villosa X tulbaghensis)

Moraea MM 15-76

Seed parent: Moraea gigandra
Pollen parent: Moraea 'Zoe'

Interesting, the spots of 'Zoe' completely disappeared. I need to do more breeding with these flowers to see if I can get the spots back.

MM 15-76a

Moraea MM 15-21

Seed parent: Moraea tripetala
Pollen parent: Moraea villosa g

Interesting. I would have thought this was a hybrid with M. loubseri.

MM 15-21a

Moraea MM 14-89

Seed parent: Moraea gigandra with white ring
Pollen parent: Moraea atropunctata

A very interesting cross. I can definitely see the M. gigandra in it, but I'm less sure about M. atropunctata. I like the contrast between the black and orange colors in the cup, and then the narrow blue eye. One thing I'm sure of is that some bug thought it was delicious.

Pollen parent: GK 1515_1 ((aristata x villosa) X (aristata x villosa form a))

Wow, check out the hairy eyes in these flowers!

Moraea GK 1956

Seed parent: MM 15-45a (Moraea 'Zoe' X M. neopavonia 'Summerfield')
Pollen parent: Moraea villosa form O

With such fabulous parents, I was hoping for some very distinctive flowers. These are vibrant, but they look mostly like the pollen parent. I will be interested to see how the next generation of plants in this line turns out.

GK 1956_5. Gorgeous blue eyes, including intense spots on the small inner tepals. This flower was badly chewed by insects, but fortunately the pollen was untouched.

Here's a less dramatic photo of the same plant:
