Moraea MM 13-38

Seed parent: Moraea neopavonia with no spot
Pollen parent: Moraea villosa d

MM 13-38a. I like the concentric rings of color in this one, but the long curling tips of the style crests are also remarkable.

MM 13-38b

I haven't assigned letters to these yet:

Moraea MM 13-20

Seed parent: MM 03-98a
Pollen parent: Moraea atropunctata

Sure looks a lot like the pollen parent!

I haven't assigned a letter to this plant yet.

Moraea MM 13-05

Seed parent: MM 10-25
Pollen parent: Unknown (open pollinated)

Moraea MM 14-132

Seed parent: Moraea villosa h
Pollen parent: MM 10-37a

MM 14-132

Moraea MM 14-116

Seed parent: MM 11-82a
Pollen parent: Moraea atropunctata

MM 14-116a. Not at all what I expected, and that's interesting. The seed parent is pale orange-yellow and has a lot of spots. I thought that combining it with M. atropunctata would produce a hybrid with a huge number of spots, and maybe some color in the tepals. Instead we get this interesting white flower with just a few spots, all in the center. I really don't understand genetics.

14-116b. This one is more like what I was expecting.

Moraea MM 14-45

Seed parent: MM 09-02c
Pollen parent: MM 11-35c

MM 14-45a

Moraea MM 14-41

Seed parent: Moraea aristata
Pollen parent: MM 10-13a

MM 14-41a

MM 14-41b

Moraea MM 14-31

Seed parent: Moraea villosa h
Pollen parent: MM 11-161b

I was hoping for a flower with some red tones in it, but I didn't get close at all.

Moraea MM 16-32

Seed parent: Moraea tripetala
Pollen parent: MM 12-125a

Occasionally I get a Moraea hybrid that blooms in just two years from seed, which is a nice surprise. This is the only one that did that in 2018.

MM 16-32a. There's a very nice pattern of streaks on this flower.

Here's a sibling...

Moraea MM 15-113

Seed parent: MM 11-92a
Pollen parent: Moraea thomasiae

If it worked, this would be my first hybrid with M. thomasiae. But the flowers look nothing like that species, so I am withholding judgment until I get more thomasiae crosses to bloom.

MM 15-113a

MM 15-113b

MM 15-113c

Moraea MM 15-106

Seed parent: MM 11-101b
Pollen parent: MM 10-02c

Two very nice parents produced some very diverse and interesting flowers.

MM 15-106a. I like the orange ring around the eye combined with the purple blush on the tepals.

MM 15-106b

MM 15-106c. Oh my goodness, this one is incredible. Look at the crazy streaks around the eye.

MM 15-106d. I like the streaks in this one too.

I marked this one as 15-106d as well, but I think it is probably a different plant.

MM 15-106e

Moraea MM 15-80

Seed parent: MM 11-92a (M. atropunctata x calcicola)
Pollen parent: Moraea neopavonia 'Summerfield blue'

This was an exciting cross because both of the seedlings have wide inner tepals, a characteristic that makes the flowers look fuller. The plants are also tall, stout, and bloom a lot. Garry Knipe and I both made a lot of crosses with these.

One other note: This cross was made with year-old pollen that had been stored in a non-defrosting freezer. So a year of freezer storage sometimes works for Moraea pollen.

MM 15-80a

MM 15-80b. I think this is an excellent flower with clear, distinct colors.

MM 15-80c

Moraea MM 15-26

Seed parent: MM 10-03a
Pollen parent: MM 11-135c

MM 15-26a. A cute little yellow flower, but there's no eye to speak of.

Moraea MM 15-20

Seed parent: Moraea longiaristata with blue spots
Pollen parent: Moraea villosa n

MM 15-20a. This one looks a lot like the pollen parent.

Moraea MM 15-19

Seed parent: Moraea longiaristata with blue spots
Pollen parent: MM 10-16d

MM 15-19a. I was delighted to see the little blue spots from the seed parent show up in this hybrid. I hope to make some follow-on crosses with it.

Moraea MM 15-12

Seed parent: MM 11-91a (M. flaccida X villosa a)
Pollen parent: MM 11-91b (M. flaccida X villosa a)

This is an F2 hybrid made from the two seedlings that grew when I crossed a Moraea with Homeria.

Moraea MM 15-12a. This plant is tall and blooms heavily, but didn't set any seeds. I fear it may be sterile.

MM 15-12b. This one has a pale purplish color.

Moraea MM 15-10

Seed parent: Moraea bellendenii pale yellow
Pollen parent: Moraea villosa n

This is another case of M. bellendenii producing weird concentric stripes where the eye should be.

MM 15-10a. This one has blue, orange, and black bands, plus a pale violet flush to the flower..

MM 15-10b

MM 15-10c. I am fascinated by the complexity of the markings in this one.

MM 15-10d

MM 15-10e

Moraea MM 15-09

Seed parent: Moraea bellendenii yellow
Pollen parent: Moraea villosa d

I was hoping for more interesting flowers, given that villosa d was the pollen parent. I'll have to try some F2 crosses with these.

MM 15-09a

MM 15-09b

I'm not sure if this one is the same as the clones above, or something different. I kept it separate because there are subtle differences in the eye shape and the position of the eye relative to the central cup.

What do you think?
